MADE IN USA
If you work for a US Government agency and you found your way to this page, you are probably looking for US made drones. The recently introduced bill, H.R.5125 - the American Security Drone Act of 2019 sponsored by Rick Scott would prohibit agencies from using Federal funds to buy off-the-shelf Chinese made drones for most applications. While this bill is still in review with the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, most agencies are expecting it to pass in some form and are looking at American sources for unmanned aircraft. There are some Federal agencies that have already been instructed to ground their fleet of Chinese made drones. We have provided a few links and some excerpts from the bill below if you would like to read further.
Most Americans will agree that the US Government should try to source products made in the USA. The rapid adoption of drones for consumer, commercial and industrial markets probably didn’t surprise anyone. But new capabilities available in off-the-shelf unmanned aircraft present a challenge for national defense policy makers. It makes sense for the US Government to ensure that there is an investment in innovation here in America to provide secure solutions for public agencies.
Made in the USA!
The current challenge for most manufacturers is that many of the small components used in virtually anything electronic are no longer made in the USA. Parts and raw material come from all over the world, and there are very few electronics products that can proudly display the “Made in USA” logo. The claim that a product is made in the USA is tightly regulated by the Federal Trade Commission. In order to claim that a product is Made in USA, it must be virtually all made in the USA. You can read more about this at the FTC link below.
Like most US manufacturers of unmanned aircraft, the engineers at Impossible Aerospace are making design and sourcing changes to ensure that we can proudly display the Made in USA mark on our product. The US-1 is designed, engineered, manufactured and supported in Santa Clara California, but there are some electronic components that are sourced internationally. While we can’t validate the US content in other drones that claim to be Made in USA, we believe our aircraft contains more US content than most. The camera payloads sourced from FLIR Systems and Workswell also include non-US content as well, with visible camera payloads coming from Sony or other Asian sources.
The US-1 digital control ecosystem is secure, and the engineering team continues to work on encrypted command, control and tracking solutions to satisfy the most demanding agency requirements.
